DoD report on the Arctic

Earlier this month, the US Department of Defense sent a report to Congress on Arctic operations and the Northwest Passage.

According to the Department, the report “assesses U.S. national security objectives in the region, and the capabilities and infrastructure needed to support them”. DoD notes that the report addresses the status of US icebreaking equipment in the region and discusses the changes made to the Unified Command Plan with respect to the Arctic. The full report is available here. See also Barents Observer.

Amanda Dory, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy, discussed the report in a seminar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC on June 29. A video of the event is posted here.
